Overall Concept

ENARTIS - Automated Risk Assessment, Threat Recognition and Information Sharing Platform

Bringing together all risk-assessment and threat detection data into a single integrated, automated and secure platform to provide customs practitioners with an automated risk assessment for incoming freight as well as in case of alarm. 


NII techniques for detection of contraband in high-density cargo

Combination of two novel automated first-line techniques for detection of contraband with a second-line technique to further provide information in case of investigation.

This involves:

  • The development and test of Declared vs measured Mass Consistency (DMC) method for ore-filled opened railcars
  • The development, test and simulation of Scattered Radiation Imaging (SRI)
  • The development and test of muon diffraction imaging


Mobile unit for non-intrusive detection of multiple threats

Building on the successes of the H2020 C-BORD and CORE projects, development of an integrated three C-BORD NII technologies as an enhanced relocatable unit for the non-intrusive detection of a wide number of threats with improved identification and discrimination capabilities with more efficient non-intrusive detection of a larger number of dangerous and illegal goods ranging from explosives, illicit drugs, chemical warfare agents to radioactive and nuclear material, including enriched uranium and plutonium.

The approach underpinning the mobile NII is described below:

Passive detection of nuclear & radioactive materials

Creation and validation by ENTRANCE of a first trans-European Radiation Portal Monitors (RPM) Network, integrating detection facilities of different technologies from different suppliers into a single common supervision system for passive detection of nuclear and radioactive with minimal disturbance of flow.

In more details, this ENTRANCE tool will encompass:

  • Trans-European network of Radiation Portal Monitors (RPMs) combining detection facilities of different types and technologies
  • Novel high-speed RPM detection technology
